Messinn

Messinn opened its doors in 2016 and has since then made a name for itself as one of the best seafood restaurants in Reykjavík. It’s a small restaurant, offering guests a laid-back atmosphere and excellent food. Messinn focuses on the simplicity of the menu, which is still interesting. It specialises in pan-fried seafood dishes, cooked perfectly and served on the pan with butter fried Icelandic potatoes and fresh salad. During lunch, they offer a lighter version of the evening menu. Messinn’s sister restaurant, Tjöruborðið in Ísafjörður has been the local’s favourite for years and Messinn has taken some of the most popular dishes to serve at their restaurant but they strive to keep the Icelandic homely feel with big portions and traditional decors.

High-quality, fresh ingredients, homely ambience and very reasonable prices have made Messinn one of Reykjavík’s most popular seafood restaurants, as can clearly be seen on the excellent Trip Advisor reviews they continuously get.

Reviews

Like, I just can’t even describe how good the food is here. We came here for lunch and ordered the arctic char and fish stew. The char was outstanding. Had a crispy, honey crust that melted in your mouth. The stew is like something I’ve never tried before. It’s fish with potatoes baked in deliciousness. Comes with rye bread that tastes like cake.
Seriously. Both dishes were outstanding. My husband and I are frequent travellers and have been to over 35 countries. The food at this restaurant is top five for us. Ever.
