Vitinn Restaurant is a family-run bar and restaurant owned and managed by Stefán Sigurðsson, the restaurant’s chef and his wife, Brynhildur Kristjánsdóttir since it opened in 1982. It is located just a short drive from Keflavík Airport and a stop at Vitinn restaurant is an excellent way to start your travels in Iceland by getting a taste of the freshest seafood. They have a lovely terrace at the back of the restaurant which is the perfect setting to enjoy delicious food and drinks during warm summer nights.

They specialise in traditional Icelandic cuisine such as seafood and lamb, but they also offer some international dishes. The service is truly great and personal and the atmosphere makes you feel welcome. Their menu offers an excellent range of seafood dishes along with meat courses and desserts at a very reasonable price.

Their three-course set menu. As a starter, you’ll get their famous crab and shellfish soup with locally caught produce. It is served with homemade bread garnished with olives and paprika along with garlic butter. Your taste-buds will certainly appreciate the fresh seafood taste and the creaminess of this delicious soup. As a main you’ll get the signature deluxe seafood platter, full of all kinds of freshly caught shellfish and fish. The dessert doesn’t disappoint either, but you’ll be delighted with the homemade mocha ice cream that Vitinn serves with a bed of berries and topped with whipped cream.

Reviews

I have eaten fish my whole life– all kinds of seafood– and I was a little skeptical because I’d heard the food in Iceland was not so good. This was simply the best piece of fish I’ve ever had– the texture and flavor was outstanding. It was topped with shrimp which tasted excellent-no iodine flavor- and served with a salad and these wonderful onion potato rounds. This place is a must try. The lovely warm home made bread and Icelandic butter was also nice.
