The middle of the fissure on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the south part of Reykjanes, is the geothermal area of Krýsuvík. The banks of the hot springs are green, yellow and red colored with pillars of steam rising towards the sky, and the boiling mud pools dancing in their own rhythmical symphony. The main geothermal areas of Krýsuvík are Seltún, Hverahvammur and Hverahlíð.
Seltún is the most known areas within Krýsuvík as it provides a range of study and research opportunities due to its great variety of features. A marked trail leads through the area which has many mud pools, fumaroles and minerals deposited from geothermal solutions provide colorful sediments.
