Eldborg crater is a beautifully shaped crater that rises 60m above the surrounding lava fields. It is one of the most symmetrical craters in Iceland with a diameter of 200m and a depth of 50m. The last time this volcano erupted was 5000 - 6000 years ago.
The easiest way to climb Eldborg is from Snorrastadir on the south side. However, you still have to walk 2.5 km through a lava field overgrown with scrub. When you have reached the top, you can circle the crater once. This hike should be completed within an hour.
