Farmers Bistro

Farmers Bistro is a small bistro restaurant, located in the beautiful surroundings of Flúðir, South Iceland. Flúðir has become a popular destination for tourists because of its good weather and its ideal location, near the Golden Circle.

What’s so interesting about Farmers Bistro is that it is operated alongside and by the same owners as Flúðasveppir, the only mushroom farm in Iceland and one of the largest horticulture farm called Flúða-Jörfi where they grow bell peppers and tomatoes in greenhouses and cultivate cauliflowers, broccoli, cabbage, red cabbage, kale and carrots. They also grow the fresh herbs used at Farmers Bistro.

The restaurant is as an excellent opportunity for guests to get a taste of the farm’s crops. The bistro’s hallmark is to introduce and promote our bell-pepper and mushroom cultivation. Groups are able to visit their bell-pepper greenhouses and get a short introduction.

The menu at Farmers Bistro presents the fascinating world of mushroom and bell-peppers and includes a gourmet buffet with mushroom soup, served with home baked garlic bread, sourdough and barley bread, bell pepper & mushroom tapenade, marinated mushroom, mushroom butter, garlic- & basil butter & butter on the side.

The bistro itself is lovely and has a such a nice ambience. Farmers Bistro has an outside patio where its ideal to sit and enjoy the weather during the warm summer days and with the horses outside the restaurant guests will experience authentic Icelandic country-side life at Farmers Bistro.

Reviews

One of (if not the best) meals that we had in Iceland. It was a pleasant surprise to come across the Farmer’s Bistro during our tour of the Golden Circle. We were initially surprised by the smaller menu, but the food was mouthwateringly good. We still talk about this restaurant months later! I cannot recommend enough.

This place was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Iceland! It is apparently the only mushroom farm in the country. The mushroom soup was truly the best we’ve ever tasted, and my family loves mushrooms. We also tried both the mushroom and carrot ice creams (even though it was a bit cold out) and they were also delicious. The staff we spoke with were also very friendly and informative and seemed very proud of their farm (which they should be!), which uses local, organic compost to grow their then hand-picked mushrooms. They also grow other vegetables which were in some of the dishes in the buffet. Truly a wonderful and delicious stop during our Golden Circle wanderings! I can’t recommend it highly enough.
