Höfnin

Höfnin is a wonderful family-run restaurant that specialises in Icelandic cuisine and seafood. It is located by the harbour, in the new and vibrant harbour district that is becoming increasingly popular with hundreds of tourists and locals visiting daily.

The owners, husband and wife, Brynjar and Elsa opened Höfnin in 2010 and focused on maintaining the soul and spirit of the house which is built in the 1930’s and served as baiting shed and fishing gear storage over the turn of the last century. They run the restaurant with a passion which clearly runs in the family as their sons all take part in the running of the business.

Their menu consists mostly of traditional Icelandic cuisine with a modern twist. The shellfish soup is especially popular, along with the mussels, the traditional creamy fish stew and the Icelandic lamb. Höfnin only uses the freshest produce, small boats and fishermen often bring the catch directly in front of the restaurant which attributes greatly to the restaurant’s appeal.

Höfnin is a two-floor restaurant and can seat up to 100 guests. It offers a magical view overseeing the marina, the local trade and its community with the scenic Mount Esja as a beautiful backdrop. The ambience of the restaurant is traditional and charming, the service is friendly and personal while the food is outstanding. It’s an ideal place to experience that best of Icelandic food, whether you are looking for a light lunch or a laid back dining experience.

Reviews

This was the best meal we have had in Reykjavik! The food and service were amazing! A very cozy atmosphere. We were even lucky enough to meet most of the family that owned the restaurant. They made us feel like part of the family. We would most definitely eat there again.
