VON Mathús is a new family-run restaurant in Hafnafjörður, owned and run by husband and wife, Einar Hjaltason and Kristjana Þura Bergþórsdóttir. With their passion and enthusiasm along with the demand for a diverse but local food culture, they decided to make their dream come true and open up this chic restaurant. The name of the restaurant, VON, means hope and the family want to make their mark on the food culture and restaurant flora in Hafnafjörður, the ‘town in the lava’. They felt that VON was especially appropriate for the mood that is ever present in the port area. As such they place their main focus on seafood, and sea-based ingredients and strive to only use the freshest ingredients that complement each dish perfectly.
Einar Hjaltason is an acclaimed and experienced chef and has an extensive experience in many of the finest and most successful restaurants in Iceland. Kristjana is born and raised in Hafnarfjörður and has a substantial knowledge in this particular field of the service industry. With their expertise combined, they’ve managed to develop the smart concept of VON Mathús, which is already becoming a local’s favourite.
The fundamental concept of VON Mathús is the homey atmosphere where personal comfort and professional service are interwoven at all times. Their hope is that this combination of feel and service will make every customer feel welcome whenever they dine at VON Mathús.
They offer two composed menu’s, one is a 3-course meal and the other a 5-course meal, and we thoroughly recommend these. The menus are perfectly put together so you’ll have the chance to try the very best VON has to offer. The menus are a mix of seafood and meat with a mouth-watering dessert to end the delicious meal. The menus are also available for vegans and vegetarians upon request.
