The Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is a claw-shaped peninsula attached to the Westfjords by a narrow neck of land, a mere 6 kilometres wide. it is one of the most loved hiking areas in Iceland but due to preservation, dangerous steep cliffs, precipitous mountainsides and unstable arctic weather, access is limited. The most impressive point is the Hornbjarg cliffs, located east of Hornvík bay. It is the peninsula highest point and is home to Iceland’s greatest bird colony. The area is also home to the Arctic fox and in the ocean below you might spot seals and whales. Hornstrandir is a wonderful location to connect with the wild nature as it is breathtakingly raw and rich in vegetation.
