Reykjavík Art Museum is a leading art museum in Iceland, housed is three different buildings in central Reykjavík: Hafnarhús, Kjarvalsstaðir and Ásmundarsafn. The museum regularly displays works by three of Iceland’s most renowned artists, Erró, Kjarval and Ásmundur Sveinsson. In addition, Reykjavík Art Museum displays various exhibitions by Icelandic and international artists. The Museum is also a venue for young and promising talents.

The exhibitions at Reykjavík Art Museum span everything from the historic to works from our times. and from the traditional to the very peripheries of art. The museum’s exhibitions usually run for 3-4 months at the time, with new exhibitions opening in the beginning of the year, in spring and autumn. The museum’s collection is also on display in various official buildings and public spaces all over the city.

Reykjavík Art Museum oversees the city’s art collection, such as open-air artwork and it boasts of many famous works by Icelandic artists, with the total collection counting roughly 17 thousand works. The museum also hosts various cultural happening, staging over a hundred events, from lectures and seminars to concerts. Reykjavík Art Museum collaborates with several festivals such as Museum Night, Reykjavík Art Festivals, Design March and Culture Night.
