Eyjafjallajokull

Who doesn’t remember when Eyjafjallajokull erupted and put Europe on hold in 2010? Eyjafjallajokull is probably Iceland most famous stratovolcano and therefore a very popular attraction nowadays. It is 1666 metres high and is located north of Skógar, close to the larger Mýrdalsjökull. The crater of the volcano has a diameter of around 3-4 metres and the glacier cap covers an area of around 100 km2. We recommend visiting the Eyjafjallajokull Visitor Centre at Þorvaldseyri farm for an interesting exhibition about the volcano, the 2010 eruptions and the effects of having to live next to a very active volcano..
