The Hveragerði Geothermal Park

The Hveragerði Geothermal Park is in the centre of Hveragerði, approximately 45 km east of the Reykjavík capital area. The geothermal park in Hveragerði is the local gem and is open every day during the summer season At the Geothermal Park, guests are offered to take a guided walk around the hot springs and learn about the geology and history of this unique area. Visitors can experience the benefits of the therapeutic mud while enjoying a mud bath for their hands and feet and afterwards soak their feet in a geothermal foot bath. These mud baths in Hveragerði are a well-established part of the Icelandic bathing culture. They have been used for health benefits since the 1950’s when a hospital started therapeutic treatments at the geothermal park. The geothermal area has been active for thousands of years and is constantly changing, especially during and after earthquakes. All visitors can enjoy the famous ‘black bread’ that local bake using the geothermal ground as an oven, which takes 24 hours!. You can even try to boil an egg in the hot spring to enjoy with the bread.
