Glymur

Glymur is Iceland’s tallest waterfall at 198 metres tall. It is located in Botnsdalur Valley in West Iceland, but the waterfall is in Botnsá river that runs out of Lake Hvalvatn, which is closed by molten lava and is 160 metres deep. There is a beautiful hiking path leading up to Glymur, however, this hike should not be attempted by anyone that are afraid of heights or for those not looking for a challenging hike. Standing by the waterfall you’ll have an excellent view of the surrounding landscape, which is particularly scenic, as Hvalfjörður is widely considered one of Iceland’s most beautiful fjords. The hike takes around 4 hours both directions, will take you from the trailhead at Botnsá River, through stunning scenery including a rock arch and will have you crossing a crystal clear river on a strategically placed log.
