Kirkjufell is Grundarfjörður`s most famous mountain because it is free-standing and amazingly symmetrical. It is one of the most photographed landmarks in Iceland. The mountain rises 463 meters above the ground and, due to the fact that it stands separately, it becomes the center of attention for visitors. It is surrounded by beaches and has a beautiful hiking trail that circles it once. There is also a climbing path up the mountain. From there you can discover birds and fossils of fish.
